Separating operator claims from register findings
A useful licence section has two clearly labelled parts: what the operator says and what the independent register shows. Where the wording differs, preserve both accounts and explain the exact difference. This makes the file reviewable without asking readers to trust an unexplained badge.
A practical checklist
- Quote only the short wording needed to identify the claim.
- Link to the register entry.
- Document mismatched names, dates or scope.
Putting it in context
If a website claims worldwide coverage but the register specifies one jurisdiction, report the narrower register wording and leave the broader assertion unverified.
Keep in mind
Do not resolve a material mismatch by assuming the most favourable interpretation.
