Complaints and resolution · QUICK REFERENCE
Updating a public complaint responsibly
If you publish a complaint account, distinguish your experience from wider claims about the business. Remove unnecessary personal data and correct the account when new evidence changes it. Preserve the date of the update so readers understand how the record developed.
A practical checklist
- Attribute statements to their source.
- Avoid naming unrelated staff or customers.
- Add material resolutions and corrections.
Putting it in context
An update can say that a response was received after publication while the substantive issue remains open. That is more accurate than either deleting the history or leaving an outdated claim.
Keep in mind
Consider appropriate advice before publishing serious allegations about identifiable people or companies.
