Urgency as a warning sign
A demand to act immediately can make it harder to check who is contacting you and what is being requested. Pause long enough to verify the sender through a known route. Save the message and identify the consequence it claims will occur if you do not comply.
A practical checklist
- Separate the claimed deadline from verified information.
- Check the sender independently.
- Avoid installing software under pressure.
Putting it in context
A threat that an account will close within minutes is a claim made by the sender. It should not bypass your normal checks or become a reason to share a security code.
Keep in mind
Urgency alone does not prove fraud, but it is a reason to verify the request carefully.
