Checking the age of jurisdiction guidance

Guidance can become outdated even when the webpage remains accessible. Record the publication or revision date, check for replacement notices and avoid converting a historical explanation into a current rule. Where current status cannot be established, say so directly.

A practical checklist

  1. Look for revision and archive notices.
  2. Check links to successor guidance.
  3. Separate old examples from current claims.

Putting it in context

A page explaining a previous procedure may remain online for reference. Its availability alone does not mean that the same procedure is still in effect.

Keep in mind

A current legal conclusion may require qualified advice beyond a webpage review.
