Reading terms · QUICK REFERENCE
Keeping a dated copy of terms
Terms can be difficult to discuss when each person is looking at a different version. Save the relevant document, its address and any displayed effective date. Record when you captured it, and keep it with the correspondence that refers to those clauses.
A practical checklist
- Save the complete document where possible.
- Record effective date and capture date separately.
- Note whether the page names a legal entity.
Putting it in context
A message referring to an earlier rule should be compared with the version relevant to that period. The current page may not answer what was displayed before.
Keep in mind
Keeping a copy documents the text; it does not settle whether a clause is enforceable.
